Well, hello first day of summer, it is so lovely to see you.  Yes, it's been hot and yes the days have been long but there is nothing quite like celebrating the FIRST day of a new summer season.  Ice cream, boardwalks, baseball and bike rides....it's finally here.  In order to kick off the season in true summer fashion, I could not think of  anything more appropriate other than sharing this wonderful homemade raspberry ice cream recipe.  Enjoy!
raspberry ice cream

| ingredients | 
3 egg yolks
3/4 cup of half and half
1/2 cup of sugar
2/4 cup of heavy cream
3/4 pint raspberries
2 tablespoons of brown sugar
a couple drops of vanilla extract
pinch of salt

| directions | 
whisk egg yolks briefly in a small bowl
set a strainer over a heat proof bowl
heat half and half and 1/2 cup of sugar 
in a heavy bottomed pot over medium heat
until sugar dissolves
whisk a little of the hot half and half into the egg yolks
whisk warm yolks into hot mixture
cook over medium heat, stir until thick
remove from heat and quickly strain
add heavy cream, cover and chill
puree raspberries and strain
stir in 2 tablespoons of brown sugar
once melted add berries to the cold cream
add vanilla and salt
chill and freeze
